Chartered Accountants - Opportunities in Australia

Would you like to live, work and holiday in Australia? 

Accountants are in demand in Australia and there are great opportunities available. Why? Since the introduction of the GST,  need has increased for accountants as businesses struggle with more reporting and compliance.  We can place any qualified person in either short term or long term jobs. Canadian qualifications are recognized in Australia.

There are two options:
 
1/ Working Holiday Makers 

This program is available to applicants between the age of 18 and 30 years old
Visas are valid for 12 months 
Successful applicants are placed in short term jobs with accountancy firms. They are required to do tax returns or maybe audit projects. 
There is a 3 month work limitation (with one employer) on the Visa.

This program is tailored to fit  Australia's Working Holiday Makers Program.
 

2/ People seeking longer term work or residence in Australia 
NB This program is under development and will soon be open for application

Applicants will enter Australia on a Occupational Trainee ship visas (Class 
442). Participants will enroll  in the external course at University of Southern 
Queensland doing the units on Australian Tax Law and Australian Company Law. On 
this class of visa participants have working rights and can be employed in a job 
which relates to their course of study.

They can apply for Australian residence at the same time if they wish.
 

  NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS
Membership of Institute of Chartered Accountants
Qualified Chartered Accountant
Minimum 2 years experience in accounting environment
Interested in taking up temporary or permanent residency in Australia
Those interested in permanent residence will need to undertake training to qualify as an Australian Chartered Accountant, involving approximately 6 months study by correspondence.

STEPS TO BECOMING AN AUSTRALIAN CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT

If you are a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants you can enroll in a combined Australian Company & Taxation Law course with University of Southern Queensland (Income Tax Law and Aspects of Company Law code 52199). This course will take approximately 6 months to complete by correspondence, at a cost of $1,050.00 AUD. You would then be eligible to join the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia. The next enrollments dates for the course are July 6,2001 and October 2001.

Anyone who is a qualified accountant but not a Chartered Accountant and wants to become an Australian CA will need to also complete Course 52199 and then apply to undertake their Professional Year through the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia. This would require a copy of their transcript from the University from which they obtained their degree. This transcript is then assessed by then Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia at a cost of $300. The assessment will take approximately 6 weeks and the $300 fee will be refunded if you are accepted and subsequently undertake the Professional Year Course. A minimum of 3 years experience in a Chartered Accounting firm would also be required.
